They also advised us of a warranty extension on this failure and recommended we return to the dealership.

They advised the transmission will fail, as it is slipping at times and a transmission P1731 code is active.

We then started to notice a milky discharge under the vehicle and Googled for similar issues with our Pathfinder. We were surprised to read \"Nissan transmission failed because of cracked radiator\".We took the vehicle into a transmission specialist who examined the fluids and confirmed the contamination of antifreeze in the transmission fluid. We were not informed about the contaminant source. It was suggested it was the Motomaster fluid we used to top up the level. The transmission was refilled with new fluid. We were hesitant to trust the May 6th inspection findings that \'everything was fine\' and requested the dealership repeat the inspection.T he dealership completed a 100 Point Courtesy Check up Inspection Report. The transmission fluid level check showed overfilling and when it was drained it was found to be contaminated. We were given an appointment on May 20th. We topped up the fluid at this point and contacted Crown Nissan to return the vehicle for inspection. Within a few days, we experienced a new hesitation while driving and we were unable to see any transmission fluid on the dipstick when we checked the levels ourselves. A \"bumper to bumper inspection\" was completed and all was well. We bought our 2006 Pathfinder from the original owners in May 2010.They provided us with service records from a Nissan dealer and we continued to complete the manufacturer recommended maintenance with a service provider before moving to Crown Nissan. We are a single vehicle family who bought a Nissan vehicle because of its reputation for quality.Īt our service appointment for scheduled maintenance and a vibration concern, the U Joints were replaced and Maintenance Pkg #4 was performed on the dealer\'s recommendation. The worst part is that this known issue on Nissan trucks should have been classified as a recall issue because the failure can happen anytime, especially during driving conditions and has the potential to cause a crash, serious injury, or death. The cost of the initial transmission replacement was $6000 the estimated cost of replacing the transmission again along with the radiator and flushing the system and replacing the fluids is $8000. After the new transmission was put in, the transmission was destroyed at 90k miles and the issue was traced back to a cracked/ruptured radiator leading to mixing of coolant and radiator fluid which in turn ruining the transmission. Our transmission was replaced with a brand new transmission after the original transmission failed at 89k miles.

When the radiator fails, it leads to coolant and transmission fluid mixing resulting in catastrophic failure and premature destruction of the transmission.

The radiator houses both coolant and transmission fluid. There is a system design flaw with the 05-10 Nissan trucks Pathfinder, Frontier, Xterra.
